The Raymond Kotomski-Teresa Kotomski Ohio antifreeze poisoning death case will be the next riveting subject of Friday’s Dateline on NBC, according to Broadway World. For now, Dateline NBC is being shown on Fridays and Saturdays.

Raymond Kotomski was a retired corrections officer who was poisoned by antifreeze in 2009. It is believed that the antifreeze was placed in a drink. His wife, Teresa Kotomski, was eventually charged in his death and sentenced to time in prison. Tonight’s Dateline will feature interviews with family, friends, and law enforcement officials who were connected to the Ashtabula county case, according to the Star Beacon.

Raymond Kotomski was a 65-year-old retired corrections officer and father of three children with his former wife. Police officials became involved when Kotomski took ill and was found lying unconscious in his home in Pierpont, Ohio. Once he was transported to the hospital, his second wife, Teresa Kotomski, told detectives that her husband said that he drank something sweet. Doctors immediately became suspicious of his situation. They also noted that Teresa Kotomski seemed anxious to have her husband removed from ventilators after he survived for several days. Eventually, he died.

Around town, there was much gossip and speculation as to what actually happened to Raymond. The talk increased after an autopsy report found that Raymond Kotomski had died of ethylene glycol poisoning. Police continued to investigate the strange death case, but they were unable to find any evidence that would lead to a suspect, causing the Raymond Kotomski case to go cold for the next four years.

In 2012, authorities decided to pursue several cold cases in the county, including the case of Raymond Kotomski. The new investigation led them to look more closely at Teresa Kotomski. Phone records were able to place Teresa with him around the time that he would have ingested the poison. They also learned that Teresa was planning to move out, as indicated by an apartment rental agreement that she signed just days before Kotomski’s was hospitalized.

Feeling that they had enough evidence to make their case, Teresa Kotomski was arrested in the death of her husband. She vehemently denied having anything to do with poisoning her husband with antifreeze. She also refused a plea agreement that could have reduced the charges to manslaughter. In July 2015, Teresa Kotomski was sentenced to 15 years to life in an Ohio correctional facility.

Raymond Kotomski’s first wife told police that her husband was a great father and a good husband who was never violent or abusive with her, nor his children. She was married to him for more than 30 years but never knew Teresa Kotomski. She was shocked and devastated to learn of his untimely death. Those who knew Raymond say that he worked for many years as a corrections officer at the Western Penitentiary in Pittsburgh, where he was very well respected among fellow officers and inmates.

Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless poison that has a mild sweet taste. It’s the type of poison that could easily be mixed with juice or some other sugary drink, and if ingested, produces grave symptoms in the patient. Ethylene glycol is completely toxic to humans and animals. A person who consumes it will suffer greatly, as it causes severe hyperventilating and vomiting. Metabolic acidosis, malfunction of the cardiovascular system, kidney failure, and death are also common. It is found most often in antifreeze but can be found in other household items, such as paint and brake fluid. To see how investigators were able to nab this killer, watch the Dateline NBC episode entitled “Something Sweet” on Friday, October 30 at 10 p.m./9c. Check out the tease below. The Inquisitr also reported on ABC 20/20’s interview with Leah Remini, which airs tonight.
